Jamie Foxx’s Thunder Soul Brings Funk To The Movies
As funk fanatics, we about had an orgasm when Pulp Fiction’s opening credits blared Jungle Boogie over the speakers. And while we couldn’t force ourselves to watch the disaster of a movie Bending All the Rules, the soundtrack was awesome, even though you can’t purchase it. Seriously, do NOT rent that movie, it’s the worst movie ever. Luckily for us, we now have a new funk movie to enjoy that actually will have you moving and grooving in your seat and even better it’s not background fodder.
The movie is called Thunder Soul and it’s a true story of a high school band named Thunder Soul that filmmaker Mark Landsman took the time to put into a documentary form from classic footage of the 1970’s project along with the reunion that took place getting more of the members together to recreate it. Jamie Foxx’s manager saw the film at an LA Film festival and got a copy to Jamie who immediately put his stamp of approval on it which gave the film a boost of visibility that it didn’t previously have. Not to mention that it walked away with the 2010 Audience Award for Best Feature Documentary at the SXSW Film Festival.
