Interview: Dawn Silva, Queen of Funk
We sit down with the Queen of Funk, Dawn Silva. Her professional singing career began as an integral part of Sly and the Family Stone and then became deeply involved in Sly Stone‘s life serving not only as a background singer, but also caring for his home and property and essentially becoming a sister from another mister.
She then moved on to George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic where the cast of characters ran deep from iconic musicians like Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, Eddie Hazel, and many others. That experience then spiraled into her joining forces with Lynn Mabry to George Clinton‘s iconic side project Brides of Funkenstein.
Since those days, she has worked with many projects and bands like The Gap Band, and a solo project that continues to draw funk fans around the world. Join in as she discusses the re-release of her solo album on streaming platforms and her book that dives deep into personal stories accompanied by hundreds of photos of her historical funk journey.
